The Heart of Uganda’s Wilderness
Uganda's Big Five Destination
Situated in the northwestern region of Uganda, Murchison Falls National Park is the largest and one of the most celebrated national parks in the country. Known for its dramatic landscapes, diverse wildlife, and the iconic Murchison Falls, this park is an absolute must-visit destination for travelers seeking adventure, wildlife, and breathtaking natural beauty. Murchison Falls offers a wealth of safari experiences, from thrilling game drives to river cruises, all set against a stunning backdrop of savannah, wetlands, and lush forests.
The park’s proximity to the mighty Victoria Nile River and its central position within Uganda make it a prime location for spotting the Big Five—elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, and rhinos—as well as a wide array of bird species and other wildlife. For the discerning traveler, Murchison Falls National Park offers a quintessential African safari experience that’s both exhilarating and intimate.
Signature Experiences
Murchison Falls can be visited year-round, but the best time to visit is during the dry season, which runs from June to September and December to February. During this time, wildlife is easier to spot as animals gather around water sources, and the roads are more accessible. However, visiting during the wet season (March to May and October to November) also has its advantages: fewer tourists, lush green landscapes, and a quieter, more serene experience.
Murchison Falls is accessible by both road and air. The park is about a 5-6 hour drive from Kampala, Uganda’s capital, and can be reached through the Masindi town, which lies just outside the park. For a quicker option, there are daily domestic flights from Entebbe to Pakuba Airstrip or Chobe Airstrip, which significantly reduce travel time, providing a more convenient and scenic arrival.
